How To Increase Your Broadband Speed In 3 Minutes
How To Increase Your Broadband Speed In 3 Minutes
Here?s a simple 3 minute tweak (XP Pro only) that will increase your broadband speed.
By default (even with QoS disabled) Windows XP reserves up to 20 percent of your connections bandwidth. To override this reserve take the following steps.
Make sure you Log on as Administrator, not as a user with Administrator privileges.
* Start-> Run-> type gpedit.msc
* You will see [Local Computer Policy]
* Expand the [Administrative Templates] branch
* Expand the [Network] branch
* Highlight [QoS Packet Scheduler]
* Double-click [Limit Reservable Bandwidth]
* Check [Enabled]
* Change [Bandwidth limit %] to 0 %
* Click [Apply] [OK]
* Restart
Effect is immediate.

Determines the percentage of connection bandwidth that the system can reserve. This value limits the combined bandwidth reservations of all programs running on the system.
By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.
If you enable this setting, you can use the "Bandwidth limit" box to adjust the amount of bandwidth the system can reserve.
If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the system uses the default value of 20 percent of the connection.
Important: If a bandwidth limit is set for a particular network adapter in the registry, this setting is ignored when configuring that network adapter.

Surely 20% is the bandwidth relating to the direct connections on the PC. Therefore we are talking 10/100/1000 speeds. The only time I can see it might make a difference is on low speed connections such as weak wifi.

its a setting generally used for network traffic. I use it at work to great effect, I have slightly more bandwith than the other users
So instead of having slower than dialup speeds, I am on the equivalent of dial up

I used to get 1.5mb now im getting 3.2mb. What i did was open up my master port and all other extensions are removed the ringwire...
Basically when you open them up wires will go to terminals 2+5 so bascially i could disconnect everything except those... Bare in mind i use only 1 phone in the house and thats the wireless phones.
Soon as i disconnected the ringwire on all of the ports and rebooted router my sync speed went higher and then few days later my speed increased

This might, and I mean MIGHT only work if you connected to your modem/router with a USB cable, otherwise your PC-Modem/router ethernet cable/wireless connection will easily be able to cope with the speed of your broadband and thus will not benefit by this change.
