Default Paint Shop Pro X or Adobe Photoshop question

Hi

I was hoping a Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop expert could help me out

I was looking to create a banner - which had a photo at one side - for example the one below - where the photo is on the right and the left has a gradient fill which blends in with the photo.

Anyone help out with some directions/guides?

Many thanks
Richard.

Well the way I would do it is to create a gradient layer for the light brown gradient in the pic above, resize to correct width then add the texts.

Add the cake image as another layer, cutting away the area for the gradient layer so it comes through.

Flatten the image and then use the smudge tool to smear the gradient area into the cake area.

Another way, place a layer over the photo you want to use and flood fill it with any colour you like and use the circular eraser with a low numbered opacity so that eventually you are erasing the top layer to reveal your photo underneath which is how i think the one you have shown is done.

You can use a photo ontop of another photo instead of using a layer and filling it with colour etc.

Flood fill won't produce that gradient effect
