Default So how bad is the IT job market?

I think I've finally had enough of my job and it's time to start looking at pastures new. Loads of people have left our place recently, so I'm guessing that for the right candidate, there's work out there?

I'm currently a senior IT manager for a FTSE250 company (My teams look after servers, storage, network, data centres and DBs and I had a budget of ~£10M last year) so if anyone's looking for someone to come in and shake up their IT department and drag it into ITIL aligned, highly available, process driven maturity, I'm your man.

I would say that everything is frozen until January -- certainly the company I work for has a hire freeze and a travel freeze until the end of the year.

Yeah, ours is frozen but, like I say, we're losing good people (and some not so good) a lot too.

I did. It's been a great 4 years, I've learned loads, developed myself and it's really been an incredible experience but I think I'm just bored with the place now. I won't be rushing into anything but if the right job comes up over the next 3 months or so I'll probably jump ship. I'll want a personal massuese and a company helicopter, though.

there are only 14 of us in my new place, and we are doing really well at the moment, just need to do better, so we can spend more time in the pub

Jobserve has a whole bucket load of jobs ranging from desk monkey right up to Tech Directors so someone is employing and the jobs are not sticking around long either.

I've got my CV together in preparation.
