Default Vista Explorer

Need some help please as this is driving me mental.

I supported windows for years, can handle advanced topics, don't need Start.. Run references etc but this is driving me nuts.

Vista Explorer, I want it to leave the column widths they way they were the last time.
Have tried all kinds of stuff but no, after a restart, into the folder, have to stretch the col widths to see the full file name, restart - back to narrow.

HELP!!

This has always been the case from XP days, MS never address it!

Vista forgets because it always wants to revert back to what it thinks best. You will need a 3rd party app if it exists to address it.

Does it work if you right click the drive, go to properties, then customize, select Use this folder type as a template (use "All Items" & Also apply to subfolders) Assuming your current viewed folder is how you want it.

It might do for a few hours yea, not consistently though. Anyway the OP's query is about column widths, not the content.

Thanks for the input chaps.
Have been playing with alternatives and am loving Directory Opus.

I usually hate these windows replacement things but this is a serious explorer tool and I'm, pretty close to actually buying it when my temp licence runs out.

If anyone is looking for an outstanding file management tool, give this a go.
