Ok - hope someone can help me here!

I'm having a few problems with getting Internet Explorer to work on my other machine. The computer seems to be dialling up correctly, verifying username and password etc. But then once Internet Explorer loads up, it can't find any web pages!

I've recently uninstalled a large number of programmes after getting my new machine (much faster ), which I'm guessing is what caused it...but haven't got a clue what exactly I've done! I tried contacting BT (I'm on their Surftime Package) and they double checked that I'm using the correct dial up number, username, and password so there's no problems there - theyt suggested it could be a problem with my software - I'm at a complete loss! Any ideas??

I'm not sure if it makes any difference but if you need to know, I'm still using the original Surftime software. Somebody's suggested that I try re-installing Internet Explorer - how do I do this and where do I get the software from???

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If you can't find any web pages, it sounds like your DNS settings are screwed.

Can you access via I/P address only ?

Thanks a lot for the replies so far guys. Looks like i'm going to be re-installing IE at some point today to see if that works .

I'll keep you updated.

My first thought was the same as Steve's. Once you have reinstalled IE and the Surf time software, do Steve's test of using an IP address to connect to a site. Normally the default IE settings should be sufficient (i.e. automatically assign IP address and DNS settings to your PC). You can check these under the 'Network' icon on your Control Panel. Let us know if you need to do this and I'll show you what to check.

Cheers
Chris

Could also be you are not being assigned an IP address properly, settings in IE should be set to obtain ip address automatically ! if you arent getting IP, you can still dial in but wont be able to connect to email gateways or the internet !
