Surely it's against your company policy to install programs onto PC's without prior permission?
Why would she want to access her office PC whilst at home?

I prefer logmein.com anyway

Yes it is

but it has happened and she has highlighted the security issue

She works from home a great deal so she thought it would be a good idea

Phil

We use GOtoMYPc a lot and have done for a while. It is quite a useful tool if you dont want to configure complicated VPN access for your staff and/or use Remore Workplace which is bundled with Server 2003/SBS

It works by javascript via the browser and once properly setup and secured, can be very useful and easy to use for most people. Obviously once she is on her PC at work, I guess she has access to the shared drives and mapped network drives anyway so yes she will have access to the server.

Security issue..well yes and no. To make it work you have to actually physically install it on the chosen PC and then that PC has to be on all the time. So it cant be installed by any third party outside your network, but yes it does highlight the fact that if you dont want users installing thrid party software, then you need to lock down the network and terminals better

Never mind that I just VPN into work from home and have full access to pretty much everything

Tempted to set up LogMeIn on the home machine so I can do non-work stuff at work though

That works a treat. I set it up on my imac at home, which luckily has a great webcam and a superb program called Front row. (which turns on the webcam)

I simply logged in, turned on Front row and I had a great shot of my girlfriend in her PJ's legging it away from the desk when she saw her face on the screen

She was game enough to come back and flash her assests to me until she realised that some of the guys in the office were huddled behind my desk

That is determined in your active directory users section on rights and permissions. You need to adjust the blanket security policy per group

Yep all browser based, GMYPC installs a lil traybar app for config and access for the 'server' PC. Logmein is similar.

I use logmein to see my home pc from work Works a treat, and very secure/invisible to IT depts as it uses a very small amount of BW. Plus the hosting is obviously done by your net connection at home, also low BW.

I also use gotomypc to see my work PC from home, can't fault it really.

Can anyone tell me if you can restrict access to certain files and folders using either GMYPC or logmein.

We want external access but want to restrict access depending on location.
