Tempted to buy a 360: Please put me off buying one!
Well I'm off work today and I'm bored. Been thinking about getting a xbox 360 for a while now, due to the fact that there seems to be so many good games for it.
I bought a PS3 a while ago, and I hardly play it: wasn't hugely impressed with GTA 4 either. I've always had Playstations but now I'm thinking about turning. I've played halo and a few other games and in my opinion they are just far superior gaming machines with better titles.
I'm looking for anyone's opinion of the 360 - preferably bad as I really don't need one and it will be a waste of money. But I'm so boreeeddddd...

Don't do it! They've just dropped the price so they're cheap as chips now and there are loads of great games coming out in time for the long dark nights. You should also be aware that you can pick up loads of great older games for next to nothing as well! Seriously the only good that can come of getting one is you'll enjoy yourself!

Agree, best not to get one!! I really hate mine as I play it to much when I'm bored! If I didn't have a 360, I could be doing productive things such as dusting my PS3 or DIY around the house. Thank your lucky beans you do not have the best gaming console on the market.

Also - I was planning on buying an Elite if anything. Is this a wise move, or am I just as well buying the standard console? To me, the Elite is the Sti, and the normal one is the WRX. So was wanting the best.

Elite comes with a bigger hardrive that's it (120GB iirc)
I've used my launch machine and haven't filled up the hard drive (it states 20GB for min but when you get it it's only 13GB) but it depends what game bundles you can get with whichever version)
Most games are avaliable on both formats but for online play 360 is best imo (yes you have to pay for it £40 but you can get it for about £25 if you shop around).
The reliability issue i think is still there but as you get 3 years covering it(3 red lights only though) then i wouldn't worry

Yeah I've heard some stories of reliability. Rings of death or something like that IIRC. Lol

hdmi is on all new 360s iirc (maybe not the cheapest one called Arcade but there is no point in buying that imo).
The RROD (red rings of death) is covered by 3 years warrenty but the rest of the faults are only 1 year but if you buy it from Game for £35 you get their coverplan which covers everything except deliberate damge

New dashboard sees the ability to copy games to the HD which should speed it up but also keep the drive making the god awful racket that it does.
Although the new machines dont suffer from that I gather...
Got HDMI telly? Get an Elite.

The only thing to keep you from buying one may be the quality issues of these machines. I had to send mine in 4 times to be repaired. Everybody I know who ownes one, had to send theirs in at least once. I actually would rather buy a PS3 if I did not own so many games for the 360. Now, don't get me wrong. I really like the games and the dashboard and xboxlive and the whole package, BUT the quality standards of these machines (except for the controller which is excellent) is beyond acceptable. Actually, everytime I start it up, I have paranoia that it might break down. And yes, I know that I would miss Forza Motorsport and the Halo franchise, ... but still. Please be aware about this.

Exactly, my first Premium 360 cost me just shy of £300 with only 20gb drive. The Mrs has bought herself one from Sainsburys recently with 60gb drive and hdmi etc for £125! Even my arcade last year cost me £170.

I have two 360's. One downstairs and one in the office upstairs. Never had any problems and the one upstairs was a launch console, so quite a few years old.

wirelesss?
A quick Question.
if 360's need a wireless adaptor, how does the "elite" come with wireless a controller, or is it a different type of wireless?
Asking as I'm getting tempted,as i may be getting a m&s credit note soon.
Just found it, its 2.4Ghz short range i.e. must be bluetooth.
