I`m almost ready to buy a new laptop and i can`t decide between a Dell XPS 1730 and a Sony Vaio, from the specs below which would be the best deal to go for. How good are the Dell top end laptops compared to the Sony ? Ive read Sony seem to be a bit over priced for what they are but thats just what ive read, you here Dell in the past had a reputation that wasn`t that great but from what i have read things seem to have changed. Anyway, which would you choose from the 2 laptops below ?

my mate has a dell he says its a good decent laptop not sure what model it is sorry,he did have 1 problem with it(sorry cant remember what??)
but just bear in mind if you do have a problem it has to be collected by dell and sent back to them then redelivered to you when fixed when my mates went away he waited just over 2 weeks!!to get it back,
in my opinion i would go to a local pc world or a local pc shop that way if anything goes wrong its local to you,i got my hp laptop from my local staples had it over a year now and no probs.

It's all about the warranty on laptops, they're not the most reliable things in the world. The Dell one says it has 3 years onsite warranty - worth having.

dell has better CPU and graphics,

also has 3 yr warranty.
even though i heard dell's after sales service is crap.
however i also heard sony is alot of hassle to get to speak to someone

Dell's after service is fantastic, especially on XPS machines as you tend to bypass the indian call centres. Next day, onsite, fixed whatever it might be

The dell is the better machine in terms of power and gaming ability (although the 8800GTX would be nice in that respect).

The sony will be a little bit thinner and perhaps more portable but their aftersales in non-existant. They are also a nightmare to upgrade where dells are very simple.

what would scooby do

I've used Sony's for years but would not recommend them as getting support is a right royal pain in the a$$

I've never used Dell's, but a pal of mine had one with a faulty screen. I checked his warranty on-line, covered for 3 years plus accidental warranty. Dell had it fixed within 2 days so well done..

dell , I had sony viao before , now on my third dell (xps 1530 ), very well made , and better value than sony imho
