Default hard drive data recovery

I am looking for a recommendation for a company to recover some data of a 3.5" HD.

The unit has had the power cable plugged in the worng way round, and hence damaged. I purchased an identical HD and swapped the main board over, but now it just clicks away to itself and doesnt register.

I would like maybe 30-40gb of videos and pictures of the HD.

Anyone have any experience with any company? I suspect it needs taken apart and repaired in a clean envioronment, so expect mega prices.....

We recently used Fields Data Recovery at a cost of £325+VAT. Got the data back from the laptop drive, but I wouldn't recommend them due to taking forever to return the data, not answering emails and me having to find the companies MD on the internet to get a response.

I'd tried everything before hand using various software and caddies.

If you're not too worried about the cost then I can definitely recommend Ontrack data recovery.

I believe they are the market leaders and we've used them 3-4 times for work. Costs about £1k but they've always recovered everything and kept me fully informed about what's going on.

For non-commerical use they may be cheaper I don't know.
