Hi just got a new studio laptop never had a laptop before and i noticed that when i plug the charger in the display gets brighter is this normal?

Yes, although I always change it as I hate it when it does it, you should be able to alter the settings from the Power Options, or the Dell Utilities, or failing that its a setting in the BIOS

Yup, every laptop I've ever used does this.
I ensure that the two settings are different so that I know when I knock the cable out without realising. the screen slightly dimming tells me rather than having to see a tiny icon in the corner go from a plug symbol to a battery one!
Putting the brightness up higher will mean the battery runs out quicker.
