Right, i recently bought a Samsung LE40A436T1D, its 40" and a HD one at that

I had a normal white 360, which was connected to a small 14" HD acoustic solutions tv, and the graphics on that definately WERE in high definition, through the component cables

Now when i had the samsung delivered, i forgot to check about hdmi n that, so i went out n bought a black elite 360, as these have the HDMI connections for HD graphics

So, i plugged the elite in, using the hdmi leads to my new high definition tv, and CRAP! the graphics are rubbish, and i am 100% sure that they arent coming through as HD, imagine my dissapointment. my crappy 14" acoustic solutions tv had amazing hd graphics, i spend 500 odd quid for a brand new samsung hd and the hd doesnt work, brilliant!

can anyone help me? I have even gone out n bought a fourty quid hdmi lead, and it makes no difference. i know its deffo not coming through to my new tv as HD as when ur messing about on fifa 08, in the free roam arena, and u score, and it shows the replay, its coming through like it would on a ps1! horrible, choppy, and square football kit on the player, its horrible. playing call of duty four, the ship level (wet work) on my old small hdtv, i could see each tricklet of rain flowing down the containers and think "wow that looks so real" now on the samsung, the water dont even move, infact theres not even any water there!! on fifa on my old tv the kits were crisp, sharp, even the players hair moved freely as they played, on this samsung, rubbish

anyone help? i have the connections all plugged in, settings on the xbox in the hd section are: 1080P/widescreen/standard, on the tv, the hd setting i havent touched, so what the hell!!!! anyone have this samsung model with an elite? or any ideas about the hd? its really bugging me so much that i feel to sell the tv and go back to my little un, lol

I don't know the first thing about XBox's, but whilst you can still get your money back get back to the shop and get a refund on the £40 HDMI lead. Any digital signal cannot be influenced by the quality of the lead at any price. I buy my HDMI leads from kenable - for cables, networking and peripherals for less than £3 a pop. People have commented about Lidl, Wilkinsons etc selling them at £1.99. If it were an analogue signal then I would advise spending money on a high quality lead, but NEVER for digital.

i jus bought that thinking it would be the dogs mods, lol. basically, the xbox connected to this new hdtv, should be giving me high definition graphics, but it isnt, i havent yet tried connecting the tv to another hd source such as a blu ray player, i may go to town tommoro and just buy one to see if hd comes through on that, but i know my games and i certainly know the difference between the tvs when playing really upsetting me! i want HD!

you say your xbox settings are set to 1080p. Does your tv support 1080p or 1080i ?

Try changing it on the xbox to see if that makes a difference

Have you checked that the 360 is outputting at 720p? Go to the system blade and setting and make sure it's on the correct resolution for your TV.

Iv tried both leads (component and hdmi) no difference? even put the best game for graphics on the 360 to test graphics (the game is Bioshock) and in some levels on that game theres alot of water pouring onto you, and in hd, if u walk through water, and keep walking the water drips off your screen as if its dripping off your face, but still nothing, can definitely tell the difference, really annoying me

You've bought a TV only capable of displaying 720p. It's resolution is 1366x768 so you're not going to get 1080p whatever you try.

The 360 games are only 720p anyway. If displayed at 1080p they're upscaled.

No. 1080i is 1920x1080. Same resolution as 1080p except that it display the images in an interlaced format (hence the i).

but if it is attempting to upscale on a TV that cannot display the images then the images won't be displayed.

Actually reading that back, it might seem patronising - that isn't the intention, but I hope you see my point!

Press Info on the TV remote and it will tell you on the screen what the res is.

i can tell you that my 42" samsung can not do 1080i via the vga cable, as it can not do "interlaced" or something, although i could pick it when running component leads if i remember rightly

run yours on 720, mine is actually on a 768 as i am running the vga cable

actually tell the truth i paid £430 for it brand new with warranty, theyre selling them for £450 now

as for the hd, my tv CAN go upto 1080 as i had sumsung on the phone all day today and even had an engineer out (no not a samsung engineer) also had xbox on the phone too, its working now, actually it was working i just needed to make some refinements to the settings on the tv

xbox games are all 720 standard but are between that and 1080, it depends what settings ur running, iv even seen some games that dont work at 50hz, so thats something to consider too

the screen is 1366 x 768 and will not display a 1080P signal at full resolution. The screen is best running at 720P, it will display 1080i, and it may even allow you to see a 1080P signal, BUT it will be downscaled to fit the screen.

Change the Xbox to 720P and that will give you the best performance for your screen

I really need to stress that you are NOT seeing a 1080i image. Your TV cannot display it as it only has 768 lines to play with, not 1080. This is not a bad thing, but I don't want you getting the impression that you are at all SEEING 1080 lines on a TV 'only' capable of displaying 768.

I found a nice quote for you to read:

"All HDTV's take what they receive and upscale or downscale it to their native resolution. So a 1366x768 HDTV will accept an 1920x1080i/p source and downsize it to fit the 1366x768 frame. It most likely will overscan the image too so the incoming frame will be downsized to about 1440x816 and the center 1366x768 will be displayed. A 1280x720 source will be upscaled to about 1440x816 and the center 1366x768 displayed. "

It really is a poor show that the sellers will deliberately mis-lead the public into buying something that they simply aren't getting.

so my tv which I have set up to display 1080i on the 360 would I actually get a better picture by going to 720p ? (it is a 1366x768 screen)

Not necessarily. It depends on how good the scaling software/hardware inside the tv is. The only way to tell is to try it

in that case it will probably be cr@p as its a hyundai plasma (lg panel)

The quality though I must admit is good at 1080i so may just try 720p see if that makes a difference or not
