Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.

Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.

Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.

LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.

Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything you’d expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.

Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.

New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

Plus more features to be announced soon

Play games from hard drive, I wonder how this will work? I guess it will only work with future games.

No reason why it wouldn't work with all games Finally a good use for the 120Gb HDD. Having the option of install or not is nice too

Yup, it worked fine with the xbox (albeit only on chipped) so i can't see it being a problem for older games.

Not many surprises announced so far but it's nice to confirm the rumours

So the wife want's the singstar clone ......

I'm left a bit cold by the games announced. I was waiting for Forza 3 but it didn't come. The HDD install looks like a good Idea, no more rockband load screens

I like the 360 dashboard as is and the new interface isn't an option it's an auto update.

I was trying to make RB5 feel better

They've spruced it up nicely whilst keeping elements of the original

the whole idea of playing games from the HD, while it might seam like a good idea at the moment, i cant help feeling that it will "become the norm" in the future and you will have to play each game from the hd otherwise it will play crap ?

could be a way for MS to squeeze more data into their games. compress it on the DVD and write some files to HD. Sound feasible?

I doubt it will ever go this way with 360 - Because they have to support the core/arcade systems.

It's an option, and a nice one to have at that.

I don't think it's a speed issue as loading times are not too bad, it's probably more to do with keeping the noise down from not having the dvd constantly spinning.

The problem with installing games because they are larger than dvd would go against MS's play on any console with or without HD policy

i would agree, but they are liars and told us a simple small memory card would do at one time

"a chance in the way gamers use media" will be touted and before you know it, large installs will be needed before you can play your game, just to make everybody buy a 300quid 60gig official ms hard drive

just you watch, i predict it in advance

For me the dashboard is a vista clone with a good sprinkle of wii mii's added. Turned my xbox from a cod4/halo/forza hardcore games machine into some wag friendly box

i think i saw something on another website that claimed you could still use the old blade system.

to be honest, most sites i have been on today have had people saying they dont want the stupid avatar things, so i doubt anybody will be forced to use them
