Wanted: Firewall Engineer in Surrey
We are a network security distributor looking for a firewall engineer.
I need someone able to:
Pre-sales a number of network security solutions
Able to scope an implementation (primarily firewalls)
Carry out the deployment of firewalls and other security solutions
Support and provide user training (primarily firewalls)
I will be able to provide training in the specific products we work with, but I will expect you to have some experience working with a variety of projects and customers. More suited to someone with a couple of years experience, but want the variety of project work (rather than day to day administration)
Working experience is much more important than bits of paper! Any experience with Stonesoft, Checkpoint, SonicWALL or major UTM would be in your favour!
Based primiarly in Surrey, but the work can take you all over the UK.
Salary negoiable, dependant on experience.
If you are interested, please let me have a copy of your CV and your salary expectation.
Drop me an email if this of interest: andrew.tang@e92plus.com
Cheers
Andy

Cheers Kieran.
We can get away without outsourcing at the moment, but the work is increasing.
The guy was technically able, but lacked the social skills to put him in front of my customer or their customers!

Andy,
Just a thought, do what Norton Symantec do.
Employ a hacker, maybe as rehab or a scheme. Most Av companies do it as a matter of course to improve security etc.
Maybe ask for a hacker rather than a Firewall engineer?
Am sure you could get details from Jobcentre or anonymously.
I know it sounds bizarre but I know of a few companies which have gone this route to tighten up, depending on your data of course.

TBH I need someone that can install firewalls, not hack them.
Although I understand the mentality behind employing a hacker, I'd rather have someone able to configure them!!

Configuring firewalls is easy:
Source: ALL, Destination: ALL, Action: DENY.
I dunno... some people like to make things complicated
the biggest problem I find with firewalls is that people try to make them all things to everybody, and put all their faith in a single box. you need back end firewalls and perimeter ones between remote networks... but you try convincing people of this.
I really like ISA publishing as well - our last pen test slagged off the web-sites and didn't even mention the infrastructure.
If anyone wants CoCo stuff doing - I'm your man!

Although I've been a Microsoft guy for 14 years of my working career, it was only in the last two years where I would trust Microsoft a security product.
In fact, I do a lot with Microsoft Forefront (ISA and IAG) now and find they both have some great features that can't be handled by "traditional" firewall and SSL VPN solutions.

The best solution is to ONLY open a port for the ISA Server and force everyone to go through using WPAD from DHCP (auto config tick box on IE) with authenticated users from an internet access group.
This way only one device is allowed out, you are logging traffic through ISA (and whatever filtering software you have) and you can remove 'net access very easily when required.

I can't believe I can't find someone to fill this role!!!
All the recuritment agents are bombarding me with people from India or Nigeria on visas, as well as people who don't understand basic routing protocols!
Any firewall engineers in the South, who wants a job?

The irony of this post with the ones being posted in NSR is a little tragic.
Andy - check and see what BT jobs are being let go. Their firewall guys are pretty good on the corporate support side.
