Default Am I stuck on talk talk?

Hi

Just moved into a new house. The previous owner had the phone line and broadband with talk talk.

Rang BT to see if I could join them but they want £125 to connect me.

I have no problems being with talk talk for the landline but I really dont want to be with talk talk for broadband.

Does anyone know if I can join another ISP if my landline is with talk talk?

It depends if you exchange is unbundled (LLU) local loop unbundling. If it is there are only certain isp's that can provide broadband as most isp's use adsl which is a different technology. For example BT at the moment will only supply broadband if you are adsl, i.e not LLU.

Do they still cap downloads? peer 2 peer?

When i searched for reviews on the web people seem to slate talk talk. I need broadband for work and do not want a service that will let me down.

People seem to have the view "its free, so you cant complain when theres a problem". I would rather pay for a decent service which meets my needs then just put up with something just cause its free.

In that case surely the £125 BT fee would be worth paying?

But is it needed?

The landline with talk talk isnt a problem. Its the ADSL I want with someone else.

So can you go with another ISP if your landline is with talk talk? Thats what i want to know.

No. You can swap to another LLU though (like Orange) but then you'll be stuck with their own broadband.

The only way you get a choice of ISP is to be with BT.

B.T are cowboys.

They estimate your next 3 months bills and try to charge you up front!

Their estimation process sucks big time!

I used to have unlimited broadband and unlimited phoneline! i.e set fee every month for unlimited usage!

B.T then estimated my usage would go up in the 4 quarter of last year, so adjusted my bill from 40 quid a month to 58, with out telling me!

When i looked at my monthly statement, i rang bt staight away!

The answers i got from the call centre monkeys didnt make sense, i asked how my bill has gone up when i pay a SET fee every month for ulimited usage, the answer i got was my estimated usage was on the up,so they adjusted my bill accordingly!

Which part of unlimited didnt the call centre monkeys understand?

It took two days of calls to get the money back, and even then it was knocked off the next bill, not refunded!

And when we had a problem with connections, they sent a cowbay contractor out to fix it (turns out it was a faulty adsl socket), his attitude stank and his solution to the problem was for me to buy my own adsl socket cos if he fitted a bt one i would be charged a call out of 70 quid!
OK i thought, nice one for the heads up, sockets are only 4 quid so i bought myself one, while the mrs made him a cuppa, and it was fitted and everthing worked, the contactor promised there would be no call out fee and off he went!

Next bill i get from bt has a 70 quid call out charge on it! Cheeky tw@s!

Turns out bt dont have their own engineers for call outs, they sub contract!

It was my word against his(what happened to the customer is always right)

And it took a letter at director level to sort it out!

BT will never get another penny of my money if i can help it!

If i didnt have to ahve them for a landline(monopoly?) i would get rid of them all together!

Dont go to bt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you don't have a contract with them, they can't force you to use their services ?
