Default Dead Mobo?

My PC has stopped booting up

Get a long followed by 2 short beeps from the bios which signals a video problem. I've taken the card out and put the old one back in and same problem. So I guess the mobo is going to be the issue?

I am also having a problem with the PSU. If I plug the pc in and turn on psu its fan comes on. I can't get the power switch to turn the pc on until the psu fan has stopped spinning after 5 mins or so then will turn on fine. PSU is a couple of years old Hyper Power one.

Is it possible the PSU is faulty and causing both issues, or is it likely the mobo is causing both issues?

Also, if I need to replace anyone know of any decent cheap dual core pc's (its just used as a file server and the odd bits and bobs) - needs to support my old IDE disks with all my data on (though do have it all backed up to an external HD).......

Ta

It's your memory, try just one stick at a time when you boot if you've got two

Yea def sounds like the PSU. You dont need to wait 5mins to turn something on normally do you? Hopefully the fault hasnt fecked somethin on the mobo. I reckon vid card isnt getting enough juice thou, hence the beeps.

Yeah - seems like thats the case - it tries to power on, the blue led flashes but seems to fail to have the juice to fire it up and boot it, once the auto fan on it goes off (cooling period) it allows me to turn on.

Fecking Hyper - not buying them again

I fitted a Hiper PSU to my pc as an upgrade in prep for my 8800GTX and it blew after 2 weeks. Fortunately I was well within the cover period with the suppliers who happily swapped it for a more powerful PSU from another manufacturer.
