Default Mobile Broadband

I was working in Italy and ended up using the hotel wireless to check email etc.

I'm after some kind of USB mobile dongle type thing which I can use abroad as well as in the car/uk.

Anyone any recommendations?

Cheers

Personally, not much to chose between networks. Not sure Orange do a USB modem (I have a PCMCIA card), T-Mobile, 3 and Voda do IIRC.

Watch out for roaming data charges though. You can quite easily rack up a bill in the hundreds of pounds in a week or so.

Aye, I think voda do a fixed price per 24 hours, but not sure on data allowance. I can't work it out. May give them a call!

The roaming charges are usually outside of the monthly allowance. Check the small print very carefully!

If you travel to any of the following countries then maybe "3" is your best bet, as they do not charge roaming in these countries:

Italy
Australia
Eire
Austria
Hong Kong
Denmark

I understand T-Mobile share their data masts with 3, so go for the cheapest there;O2 HSDPA coverage is woeful; Voda is better but expensive.

I have a T-Mobile one, but you get charged for roaming. If you are in the UK the deal is great: £15 per month for 3gb AND access to all the wireless hotspots.
