Wandering round Staples in noticed all the pc screens look really shiny and glossy!
I run a pair of Samsung 19" screens that are only 18 months or sol old and were expensive at the time......are these now old hat? They certainly dont look as shiny!

Sony have been doing them for quite some time now

My new HP laptop had a matt finish, after it got smashed the replacement is a glossy finish and tbh is a pain

Someone told me it was just down to Asthetics. I got a new TV that has a high gloss finish on the screen, its great when it is sunny outside :/

ahhh...i thought it was something new, but its just a gloss finish on the screen then?

looks nice in the store but i suppose not worth buying just for that!

They are a complete and utter pain for fingerprints, and mine is especially bad for attracting dust, I have to keep a cloth in the bag with the lappy

It's just aesthetics. Matt screens are much better IMO. I can't stand the reflections in shiny screens.

This is totally weired that you got a glossy HP screen after the repair. I am sure that this is not correct. If your original notebook had a matt finish, the repaired screen also has to be with a matt finish. All the business notebooks come still with matt finish, because they are easier to the eye for a workday long use. The bright (glossy) Screens are made for the consumer (home user), that uses the notebook not as long as in business. Currently, both screens are availabel (glossy for home/matt for business). You actually should complain at HP Support desk. I know for sure, since I am working for HP as Sales Person, covering the client business. Try it and good luck!

I find the matt screens a right pain to clean, I would much prefer a glossy one!

glossy is better for films, especially the CGI fests like Nemo etc. The matt finished screens don't have the depth of colour for scenes like that (imo).

So as swiss says, the glossy ones are for end users who are perceived to want multimedia. While business users get the matt finish as its easier on the eye. Need to be cleaned more, but seem to have a stronger finish and more resistant to long term damage.

All imo of course.

I got the latest samsung Sync Master monitor, its built to be good not to just look good, hence it has a Matt screen. My old laptop with a gloss screen was good in dark - dim condition, anything other than that and it was useless
