Default Tesco's and Wireless Internet

Is it possible to use wireless internet with Tescos.

My mate bought a wireless router but it says you have to put the ethernet cable into your modem but of course the Tesco's modem doesn't have this port on the back. Don't want to ring them as they want 50 p minute.

I'm a novice when it comes to this so can anyone help?

Is Tescos an ADSL service, I guess so...

In which case your mate has probably bought the wrong wireless box. You normally get two types, one for use with cable services (Virgin broadband) which uses an ethernet cable from the router to the modem, and the other for ADSL services which has an integral ADSL modem and normally just plugs directly into the phone line in place of your (friends) Tesco supplied ADSL modem.

So - it's a case of either purchasing the correct router (for ADSL rather than Cable), or buying a different ADSL modem that has an ethernet port on it so that it can be used with the current router.

£15 gets you the right thing, here: http://www.dsldepot.co.uk/index.asp?idprodtype=3

Hiya its definately an ADSL Router Modem.

I think I may know where it going wrong. Does the router replace the tesco's modem? Or do you have to have them both connected to work?

Ah....

Providing the router actually has an RJ11/phone socket to connect to the wall then the router will replace the modem - and they often have two ways to connect to the PC, either USB or ethernet - hence the port.

You should be able to connect the RJ11 (phone socket) to the wall/filter, and use the USB to connect to the PC - and ignore the ethernet.

Help a bit more? If not, exactly what make/model is the router?
