Okay cheers guys, showing my ignorance here but is there a difference between these internet cleaners and an actual reg cleaner ?? reason I ask is I thought ccleaner simply cleaned out all temp files, ie cache etc as opposed to actualy deleting old unused reg files or am I getting confused ??
is a seperate reg cleaner really required ??

*shudders* registry cleaners
Last time I ran one it broke my machine in weird and wonderful ways. Even a registry restore did not fix it. The cleaner broke the Volume Shadow Copy service in XP, and when the machine restarted Windows tried to fix it. By the time I could restore the registry a god awful mess of extra entries had been created. Reinstall was the only option that worked in the end.
IMO, if its working, DON'T fix it. Just leave it be. I have never ever used a registry cleaner on any machine and ever noticed a performance improvement - regardless what the cleaner may say.
Yes, do remove old files, as they clog the hard drive, slow virus scanners and increase the time a defragger takes.

Don't listen to Luminous he's paranoid n seems to break his stuff regularly
CCLeaner is a great lil app, been using it for years, and it also backsup before making any changes, so on the unlikely offchance it went wrong, you can restore easily. Regcleaners def do speed things up, especially if you have alot of orphaned/unreferenced entries from appplication install/deinstallations.

I will say that CCLeaner does appear to be one of the safer ones to use.
I did test some others, and they did more harm than good. If you have to then CC it...but I'd still leave well alone

Spybot has a regcleaner build in now, and worked fine on my Vista machine, its not quite as agressive as ccleaner and Eusing.. On most XP machiens that have a problem I usually go for Eusing first.
But when your mucking about with the registry be careful
