Yep, you just had to register. I was told about it when I was at Microsoft in Reading a couple of months ago.

No-one gets an invite per say, although I'm sure a few 'important' people do.

I've been told today that anyone attending the launch event normally gets full working copies of the software being launched.

MSDN Flash today

While there certainly are some high-profile launch activities this week celebrating the kick-off of Visual Studio 2008, Windows Server 2008, and SQL server 2008, we realize that not all developers can attend a major launch event. From now through June 2008 we've scheduled a series of local launch events. Just go to the Heroes Happen {Here} Web site to find an event near you. The payoff is huge. In addition to hands-on labs and Q&A sessions with the experts, you'll get to walk away with a promotional kit containing all three of these products. You can also take part in the launch experience online with the Heroes Happen {Here} Virtual Launch Experience. But you have to be there in person to get the free stuff.

So you still have time for local events

I got a mail from MS today with the new dates and locations for the Technet Roadshow.

I've registered for 30th April at the Printworks in Manchester.

Seems it's mainly Server 2008 related, when to utilise Core, RODC etc - should be interesting.

I am in Cannes at VMWorld at the moment and MS are giving away media kits containing 60 day evals of Win2008 Server, Visual Studio 2008, SQL 2008 and Softgrid App Virtualisation.......

I have grabbed a copy to muck about with.....
