Question

And if so, are they any good? I will be using it mainly to back up the documents and websites from my system, and the occasional backup of music CD's in case they get scratched in my car

Seen it on Dabs for £90.

I have Mitsumi 4802, oppo at work has 4804. Assume the 4809 is the latest of the line. They work fine, no probs, though mine is choosy about what media it uses and I have many "coasters" cos of that. It likes "Verbatim" branded ones.

My mate with the 4804 has no such problems, so that's technology for you!

Is it a burn proof one nowadays then?

Cheers Barry - I have checked CCL as it is where I bought my full system a couple of years ago, but they only have a handful in.

The Mitsumi sounds fine then - and burn proof it is

I have been using a 4804te for 2 years and have done alot of burning and it is fine. Only a few coasters but that was when testing lots of (cheap) CD media.

I use Verbatim 80min, MirrorMax 90 min and TDK 80 min cds mainly.

One thing, i think the 4809te supports 99 min (866mb) cds. I use a 4804te and can successfully get 98m47s of music on the MirrorMax CDs.

SVP Communications are superb for the drives and media. http://www.121cdr.co.uk/

Thanks for the advice all. Ended up going for a LiteOn full retail kit - 40r 24w 10rw BURN Proof.

Bought it from Dabs, along with a 50 pack of Dabs 24x 700mb 80min CDR for a total of £88.13.

This is for the retail kit as well, which gives you extra cables, 1xCDR 1xCDRW, Nero 5, and manuals etc.

Hopefully it will work now (and arrive, what with my recent net shopping problems with the TV - which still isnt here after 2 months!!!)
