Question Dual Layer disc burning problem

I've got a couple of ISO files which are about 6Gb apiece, so I bought some dual-layer discs to stick them on (£25 for 10 !!! :O) The problem is my PC just hangs when it gets about 5 mins into the burn forcing a hard reset. I've tried using Nero & a couple of other burning applications but get the same result, so now I have 4 very expensive coasters !! The drive is an LG one capable of DL but this is the first time I've tried doing DL discs.
Can anyone recommend any software or any reason why it should just lock up ?

First, make sure that you're DVD drive firmware is up to date.

Then try using some clean, unbloated software like: The Official ImgBurn Website

Hmmm, could well be a bad ISO image then. Have you tried extracting the files from it to see if its successful? Sounds likely considering you've tried a number of burning apps with the same result.

The other app I used was Active ISO burner, and I've tried it with two seperate ISO files with the same failure. I'm using Verbatim discs which are supposed to be decent, so I don't think its the media. I'm starting to suspect my drive which is the LG DVDRAM GSA-4167B. But to be honest it hasn't had that much hammer. It sometimes freezes up with regular discs and DVDs too, but I seem to be able to burn from WMP without problems.

I'm using ImgBurn on Vista with an SST SATA drive and works no problem with DL if that contributes anything...

had this recently with a liteon drive, however It would start burning and then I would get a power error.
Bit of searching the cd freaks site indicated it was a matter of setting the drive to master (this was a sata drive on its own cable) changed the jumers about but still same prolem persisted. Solution for me was to just buy a new dvd write a sony nec optiarc for about £18, swapped it out and it works a treat. The sony also has better compatabilty with media allow faster writes.

So basically I think my original problem was down to the media being used
