manually installing a driver on xp ??
Anyone advise me exactly jow I would go about manually installing a driver into the new hardware wizard within windows xp ?? have been advised that the software I am trying to install works better if the driver is manually assigned within the new hardware wizard rather than the pc automatically assigning it.
help - how exactly do I get into the new hardware wizard within windows xp ??

START - right click on MY COMPUTER - PROPERTIES - HARDWARE - DEVICE MANAGER
Now open the tabs until you find the device you want to update then right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVER.
The wizard will start. Don't let it search using Windows Update. Then select the INSTALL FROM SPECIFIC LOCATION (ADVANCED) option.
Tick the box to include the location where you have saved the new driver and most times it will choose that for the update.
If it doesn't then select the DON'T SEARCH option & direct it to the specific driver folder.
