Default Wireless PCI card for Vista x64? - NOT NETGEAR!

Can anyone recommend me a wireless PCI card that works well with Vista x64 Ultimate. I've given up with my Netgear WG311T - I've tried 3 versions of their driver and all cause Vista to lock up - even the latest one that Win Update installs (Atheros communications).

As cheap as possible please!

Thanks.

P35 chipset motherboard by any chance?

I've got a Linksys WMP54GS which works fine - unlike the Netgear WG311T it replaced.

There seems to be a major conflict between the P35 chipset and the Atheros chipset in the Netgear card. I've tried my WG311T in about eight different motherboards and it works just fine in all of them. Except the two P35 ones: an IP35 and an Asus P5K-E. I'm fairly sure it's linked to ACPI, but you can't disable ACPI on the Abit board.

You would really have hoped that this sort of thing would not happen in computers these days

Netgear can be hit and miss in my experience, but so have all the other brands I have tried My current Gigabit Netgear hub needs to be rebooted each and every morning after the PC is turned on. Otherwise it refuses to recognise the computer's NIC Clearly its going back, I'm just waiting a little while for other people to have complained bitterly to get a fix before I do so....I cannot be bothered to lead the charge with this one

Have you got a WG311T working with a P35 motherboard? I'm actually serious, because I've not found anyone yet who has.

My other annoyance is the slow (or non-existent) speed with which Netgear issue drivers. For instance, with XP 64-bit they simply didn't bother for most of their cards.

Relax, my post was in jest. But I have got WG311T's working with 3 other types of mobo linking to a netgear router, some in XP some in Vista. So the error you obviously made was buying a P35 mobo

It's out of the hands of NETGEAR because they do not write the drivers. Have you tried the latest generic Atheros drivers?
