It's still a bargain, by about £50 compared to the cheapest out there.

Would possibly struggle to run vista well, especially if you have the pretty stuff turned on, but you can specify it to have XP instead.
Not a bad deal at all.

They are absoutely fine in Vista Home. The other half has one the same spec for surfing and office. Runs like a dream. Worth upgrading the battery though as we did.

Worth going for I guess, £35 to go dual core. I paid £299 last Christmas for the same spec Inspiron 5100. I've bought another 5 since for friends and they all have no complaints.

Personally, I'd go Vista. We have Vista on our machines and they are far more stable, reliable & easier to work with than on XP.

Of course, many would argue to the contrary.

Daft comment mate. Semprons are aweful cpu's regardless of whether it runs Vista well or not. I would def pay the extra for an X2 athlon, or budget core2duo, to make it into a decent lappy.

I'd go XP - got the missus a thinkpad for Chrimbo and it's sluggish running Vista - it's identical to the machine I'm using now except this has XP and goes like a rocket (have disabled everything in Vista and it's still poor)
