Tom's Hardware and the Overclockers forums would probably be good places to start:

before going overclocking make sure you have a good cooler on the cpu, or even a water cooling solution on it.
once you have that sorted most overclocking can be done via the bios, increasing FSB speed or the cpu multiplyer if its unlocked on your cpu.
i dont have much experience with overclocking intel cpus, ive been using and overclocking AMD cpus for years with amazing results.
dont go mental with fsb if you go that route as your not only overclocking the cpu but the ram and motherboard chipset also. good cooling is essential for all components.

It's quite easy, everything was left on auto and all i did was bump the fsb as desired and watch the temps.

There is more to overclocking than just increasing the multiplier, you have to take into consideration the case, the psu, fans etc before going for it.
For instance, if your case is not very aerodynamic then id not overclock your chip as the airflow will be restricted and 30 fans in there wont do it any good, location of your pc is a factor to look at, you need a minimum of 6 inches behind the case for airflow.
I did a recent build on my q6600 quad core (about 4 or so months back) with a motherboard thats pretty good for overclocking, the case cost me 100 quid which came with the fans fitted, it runs cooler than my previous 3.4ghz p4 mainly because of the airflow in the case (which has 3 fans fitted, 1 larger fan at the front and 2 smaller extractors at the back).

You should open the case before overclocking anyway.
Check the cpu cooler type, cable layout etc
CPU-Z is a small programme that will tell you motherboard type, revision & bios as well as your memory & cpu specs.

So you have a P5N which is SLI compliant, have a look at http://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...234_p5nsli.pdf (you can download the manuals from there )

Here is the guide I used:
Beginners Guide to Overclocking - Overclockers UK Forums
Just take it easy and try to make small gains and check stability under load esp cpu temps. Read up on the cpu you have to you know what you should expect to achieve.
A decent cooler is only necessary if you really want to push it and water if you want to get the best overlock possible. But your looking at minimum £80 for water cooling and plenty of time installing it.
I run my AMD X2 3800+ at 2.5ghz from 2.0ghz stock with the retail heatsink and fan from AMD. Ive never bothered trying to push it any further as most are only getting 2.7-2.8 with a better air cooler.
As for lightwaves post about changing the fsb - just make sure you manually set the PCI speed and ram divider to account for the increase.

I've just got a Q6600 and it does 3Ghz with zero increase in voltage.
The FSB was increased to 333 which is within the motherboards normal operating specs so the only thing actually overclocked is the cpu.
