Question

...move files etc from one computer to another?

I'm just about to take delivery of a new PC (thanks Graham) and I'd like to move a load of files and programs from my 2 old PCs - one's a desktop, one's a laptop - onto the new one.

Desktop doesn't have a USB port but the laptop does. I did manage to get direct cable connection working once but it was a pain in the bum.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Cheers
Kav

Quickest way in terms of copying speed is to take the HD out of the old PC and hang it off the new PC for a while.

Are you keeping the old PC? If so, it might be worth picking up a couple of network cards (~£20 each) and a cross over cable and copy via the network.

Cool

Kav,
I personally would take the hds out of the old computers and put them into the new one, temporary that is. The desktop will be fine to do this way but you will need a converter to do the laptop.

Moving files is fine, but don't expect moving programs that are already installed easy. Can be done with a lot of hassle.

Network cards that already have been mentioned is the next easiest way.

cheapest way is a floppy and an evaluation copy of winzip. (Use disk spanning) Might take a couple of hours though
