Vista is it worth it
Thinking of getting Vista home premium
Ive got a stable copy of XP Home but thought maybe its time for a change
I know there some driver issues and problems with burning CD`s but is it actually worth it

Whilst it took a while to get used to Vista and Office 07, I've been "testing" it as an external user for my work place.
My personal verdict is the same as other comments echoed. I'm only using Vista Business, and it's just too unreliable at the moment.
If you want the shiny aspect of Vista, there's plenty of skins and mods for XP...... the best of both worlds at present (imho)
DAn (using a potent PC too)

It all depends on what you are using it for.
I've been using Vista for over a year now and have found it to be rock solid. Much more reliable than XP. The memory handling, indexing etc is a huge leap ahead over that in XP. Having said that, games performance is (currently) lagging behind XP. So, if you don't play games, but do a lot of processor intensive stuff (video editing, photoshop etc) then it works really well...
Dan, what reliability problems have you had?

Sorry Iain - just come back to this (been putting up decorations!! )
Yeh - loads of crashes. Freezing packages - on a basic "install". Just Vista and Office 07.
Running it on a Athlon 3 Gig-odd (cant remember exactly - use my Mac more!)
It's got 2 gig of PC3200 Ram and 500-odd gig of SATA HD. All drivers are up-to-date.
Graphics card is a bit old now - ATI 9700 Pro.
The only game I was running was GTA San Andreas. Nothing taxing really - oh and HL2.
Will re-install it all when Service Pack 1 comes out.

I bought my daughter a wireless thingy so she could get on the net with a new laptop with Vista. Huge problems trying to get it to connect until I phoned up the manufacturers who said it was not truly compatible with Vista and mailed me some fixes. When I bought the laptop I thought I could just install XP from her old machine. No way and I then had to fork out for another copy. But that's mostly 'cos I know bugger all about computers dl

Sounds like you might have had some dodgy drivers or something in there. I've got Vista 32 and 64 bit installed on 3 different machines, all with Office 07, and have had no crashes at all.
