I'm quite excited as last night my launch'ish console gave me the rings! Is now a good time to get them? As in will I get an updated one in return.

Doesn't bother me one bit, I'm chuffed that I'll be getting a new one. What I am concerned about is not being able to get my disk out!! Rings are flashing and the eject does nothing, is there as way to manually eject it?

Could be!! My hard drive is in my hand luggage along with a bunch of games, timing couldn't be better as I'm off for a week of doing bugger all with a mate in Spain who only called last night asking me to bring some games for his new 360. Hopefully mine will be picked up while I'm gone. And I'm going to try to blag an Elite upgrade, don't even mind paying them a few quid.

Have you tried the towel trick?
Didn't believe it myself but I've watched my nephew save his machine from 3 rings by wrapping it in a towel, leaving it on for 20 mins and then rebooting without the towel. Works OK now although its only a temp fix.

LOL
Seriously the failure relates to the heat generated when the 360 is on and certain parts of the mobo unsoldering. You then wrap the machine in a towel with all the exhausts covered to overheat the machine. This makes the solder liquify and reconnect the rails.
Is what I've heard anyway and he did it last night and it worked.

I've been considering doing a bad thing .... not that the other one
Could I in theory claim a RROD on my launch day unit even though it's perfect. In the hope I get a falcon chip unit in return ?
could claim an intermitent RROD and is ok from time to time ?
I only really want a slightly quieter model so I can use it in the livingroom a my media hub.

I rang them originally and said mine had the intermittent RROD which it did and they wouldn't accept it back as a free repair. I had to wait a few days before it completely failed. I suppose you could always lie to them.

How annoying is the White Screen stating "to play this disc put it in a XBOX 360 console"?

My launch day machine is getting very irritable in it's old age.
Where I have it at the mo it'll work fine, move it to the lounge and it'll RROD.
Until it actually gives up completely it'll just have to stay upstairs (which makes the wife happy )
I've completely lost track of when the new warranty runs out? is it this November?

If it has to keep going back for repair, I think you could probably kick up enough of a fuss to get a new one.
Microsoft have set aside enough cash to repair every xbox before the chip change or replace every 5th xbox returned.
Least thats what I read. Mines been received and fettled right now.
