Default PS3 Tech Query (TV resolution etc)

Folks,

Finally bought a PS3 the other weekend an cabled it up intially using the supplied scart cable. I then bought a HDMI cable and used that - wow, quite a difference.

Here's the issue: I connect the HDMI and turn on the PS3 - the PS3 then says; "i see you have a HDMI cable, would you like me to set that up for you?" I of course say yes, and before you know it I'm playing CoD 4 in all it's 1080p 26" Patrick Viera glory

Wife then buys Barry Trotter on Blu Ray, so I bring the PS3 downstairs and connect via HDMI to our 18 month old 32" Patrick Viera...

No Picture

Hmmm, I checked the PS3 and it's fine, cabling is fine too, this leaves a couple of possibilities:

1. The Viera downstairs is guffed, as before yesterday, it had never recieved a HDMI (or component) input. (it's possible, but unlikely)
2. The downstairs telly is not 1080p, but 720... Would this be the issue? In other words, has the PS3 set istelf up for 1080 and therefore won't display in any other format (unless of course you reset or change the details using the other telly..?)

Confused

I'd say you'd answered your own question, It's probably the 1080 not supported. Switch it to 720 on your working tv then try it again.

Sounds like neither telly is 1080p is if the one upstairs is only 26" - sure you dont mean 1080i? In which case the telly downstairs shouldnt have a problem with it (as long as its HD of course!)

Finally, have you ever been caught out moving your PS3 from an HDMI TV to the one in the bedroom, only to find that you're not getting any SCART output when you get there. Here's the fix: Turn on your PS3 as normal but keep your finger on the Power button. You'll get the first beep, as normal, then about eight seconds later a second beep and your PS3 will restart - this time defaulting to the most basic, lo-res, SCART friendly TV output.
