Default Flat Panel speakers - anyone recommend them ?

I'm buying an HD projector for my den, and would love to save space by utilising some flat-panel speakers to mount on the wall.

Question is, are they any good ? I'm no audiophile (god, I HOPE I didn't mis-spell that) but I'd like some decent sound when I use my game console or watch SKY HD.

Also how heavy are they ? They'd be going onto a non-brick wall

They're OK for the surrounds, but I wouldn't use them for the mains.......

Why not mount some decent ones [/]in[/i] the wall - make the plasterboard wall a bit deeper and create some alcoves for em.......

assuming that the den hasn't been built!!

the den HAS been built!

I was reading a review of some wharfdale panel speakers and he reckons once you hook up to a decent source, they can sound pretty decent - so I'm getting 2 lots of them - eg. 2x (2no. panel speakers + 1no. sub) for a little surround sound! It'll be fine for a game of hunt the speaker (you can put artwork in the panel frames!)

I've had Mission (now Wharfedale) FS2-AV NXT's for the last 7 years. These use flat panel technology. To be honest thay work fine for an AV setup, but I would be sure a real audiophile wouldn't not think so.

I have mine mounted on the ceiling, so when people walk into the room, they aren't noticed, well until the movie is playing ;-)

excellent - someone has done it!

this is exactly what i'm after, 4 of them hooked up to a semi-decent amp.

Which amp do you use ? Does it have 5.1 ?

eg. what type of amp do I need for them:
Driver: 2 x NXT exciters per panel
Power Power 70w programme
Nominal Impedance Nominal Impedance 8ohm
Sensitivity Sensitivity 87dB
Frequency Frequency 160-20k
