Default Slow running laptop

Any ideas on speeding up a slow running laptop? Its 2 year old and has always been internet protected etc. But since switching to Bt broadband it appears to have really slowed down. Any ideas on how to speed it up

If its only since switching, it may not be the laptop?

Have you ever deleted temp internet files? Ran disk defrag? Etc, etc.

Yep that sounds like the cause. Switchin to another ISP wouldn't cause it. Unless you've been on a downloading spree, and have infected it with loads of trojans/malware

Run CCleaner on it. Run adaware apps on it.

And then remove stuff you dont need which is resident in the taskbar tray.

A good program that i have used is StartUp Inspector, simply tick/untick the boxes on programs you dont want to run at startup.

Best program I have found for clearing up PC is IOBit's Advanced WindowsCare Personal and while you're at it, download the SmartDefrag program too. Both are free and will do a very good job of sorting out slow running PCs. With the SmartDefrag program, run the defrag and optimise option - it will take a bit of time, but it will go through and totally reorganise your hard drive into its optimum configuration.

After you've done this, check what memory you have and make sure that the vitrual memory settings are correct (as a rule the virtual memory should be set to 2.5 x the amount of RAM installed).

if you have switched to bt broadband then I take it you are using their software/browser?

If this is the case, it usually installs a version of norton on your machine. this could very well be the cause of your problem

check control panel and uninstall if necessary. Norton is evil
