Exclamation Xbox off to Microsoft for Repair

Well, 2 weeks after being one year old, my Sons Xbox developed "the fault". It was collected yesterday, to be fixed by Microsoft. He is climbing the walls already. Anyone know how long it will be before he gets it back. Don't think I can cope with his moping around for very long

You might get lucky. The first time mine went off it was about 10 days. The second time it was about 4 weeks.

Both times mine has been away its been exactly 7 days. May depend on the fault, if its the RROD - they'll probably just send you a reconditioned one back out as soon as they get your's in.

Think the main testing / repair shop is in Prague these days...

I might be talking utter rubbish here, but I am sure he said it was a "red ring"

It was, and *might* still be. Basically the way they used to repair them was a temporary fix, give it a few months and the problem would be back again. Supposedly the "new" fix is a long term measure, but, of course, the new fix hasn't been going on long enough to know just how permanent it is.

Yep Red ring . A.k.a. the RROD (red ring of death).

Basically means your sons 360 has had the same problem that has afflicted a horribly high percentage of 360s

I'm on number 3, MS always turned it around within a week, it's just the retards at the couriers that held things up.

The repair procedures that the repair centre uses is not to 'repair' anything. They use the modular replacement approach....for instance, if your console has the red rings of death, they will just swap the motherboard and dvd drive. No physical repair will be done to your console. All the faulty mobos will then be sent off and reworked.

I had mine in for repair a month of two ago, and had my console returned to my door in 14 days.

Yup - there is a sheet in with the box that tells you what was replaced. I should imagine in 99.999999999% of cases it is "replaced motherboard"

Only ever does it when I have the dashboard on, never have a problem with a notification when a game is going...

Pretty sure the 360 has Norton running in the background...

could check everybody elses fine, it has happend a few other times when i have been checking profiles in gears multiplayer, never froze in a game apart from when i abused the money glitch in forza

Mine also freezes when checking profiles, but mainly does it when I'm pressing 'B' to back out of it - I can check a profile fine, the problem arises when I want to go back to what I was doing in the first place...
