Blow Dog, Freeserve doesn't overwrite anything...
Internet Explorer:
Adds stuff the the favourites
Adds icon
Sets homepage to freeserve
Sets default dialup connection to freeserve
Outlook Express:
Creates a mail account and news account to send/receive from freeserve.
Dial-Up Connections:
Creates a dial-up connection for Freeserve
All manually removable.

Cem,
The easiest and quickest way I found to do this (on my sister's pc) was to format and start again.
You might also find the system sppeds up again as Windows has a habit of making a mess in it's own directories and this can slow things down.
With AOL this is the ONLY way to get rid of it, completely.

The only way of uninstalling the branding stuff without hacking around or reinstalling the pc was to install IE again but with a IEAK version customised to default settings. This gets rid of the custom icons and settings.

Absolutley hate AOL and their adverts. Never seen such a patronising person trying to push a product. To top it off they give the impression they are the only ones who run, manage and can get you on the net.

Try this
If you experience any problems whilst installing Freeserve on your computer, it is sometimes easier to remove what you have installed and start again.
Below are some easy, step-by-step instructions on how to remove Freeserve from your computer.
IMPORTANT - Please close any open programs before you start this process
Go to your desktop and double click on the 'My computer' icon
For Windows 2000 only double click on the ‘Control Panel’ icon
Double click on the 'Dial up networking' icon
Using the right hand button of your mouse, click on the icon containing ‘Freeserve’
Click on ‘Delete’
Close the ‘Dial up networking’ window
Open Outlook Express
Cancel the dial up connection to work offline
Click on the 'Tools' menu
Click on 'Accounts'
Click on the 'Mail' tab
Click once on the Freeserve mail account to highlight it
Click on 'Remove'
Confirm that you want to remove the mail account
Click on the 'News' tab
Click once on the Freeserve news account to highlight it
Click on 'Remove'
Confirm that you want remove the mail account

Cem,
I have done quite a few PC builds for friends/family over the last few years. The last thing I always do is take a compressed Ghost image of the primary partition C: and burn two copies to CD ( 1 for me, 1 for them with CD boot disk )
If you partition the drives correctly i.e. all user data held on the D: if it all goes t*t's up 10 minutes later we are pre-playtime again !!!

The best way of using Freeserve if u don't want the freeserve stuff installed is to do a manual dial up connection with your freeserve username password etc and the telephone number. Very easy to do on any operating system.. However if u want more info on it let me know!

I have to agree - I never use one of the free ISP disks. Use a copy of IE from a magazine disk (PCPro always have the latest version and othe useful patches) and configure it manually. No use of course if someone else sticks a free disk in which walks overs everything. My father also seems to take great delight in finding as much free sh*te as possible to slow his computer up with.

Despite my pleas with my dad to not install anything on his computer, he decided to install Freeserve on his PC.
Now the damn thing is everywhere! Its replaced Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, dial ups everything!
Also, it has no uninstall option.
Very angry with Dixons group again.
