Go into your Documents folder, there should be a Microsoft User Data folder in there. Select it and use the "Create Archive of..." command to turn it into a zip file. This gives you a backup of the folder, should we need it. Then, once you have the zip file, delete the original folder, then launch Word and see if you still get the problem.

The reason for backing up the folder is that if you are using Entourage for email, you'd lose all your emails. If you are not using Entourage then you could probably delete the folder without making the backup zip file of the folder.

If the above does not work, have a read of this.

Select the folder, control/right click on the folder in the finder, you should get a menu pop up (or go to the File menu in the Finder), there should be a create archive command there, at least that is what it is called on 10.4.x. I think it had a different name on 10.3 and 10.2, perhaps "create zip file"? But it should be there.
