I use mine with Vista Premium and the Media Centre interface on the 360 is very slick.

You need XP Media Centre Edition or Vista Home Premium/Ultimate.

as Dunk said you need vista or media centre edition.

It works really well for photos and music but the restrictions on Dvix is a pain in the butt. Lets hope they go for divx support in this upcoming update

You don't need vista, or WMCE - Windows Media extender works fine with XP - You need to download the necessary file from MS - The only caveat being that you have to have Media centre Edition if you want to stream video. Picutres and audio work fine however.

I use Transcode360 through Media Centre and it works a treat All the thumbnails of Divx movies show up, just press Info, More then Transcode and it plays perfectly. Official support would be nice though, with better RW and FF features.

But that doesn't give you the proper Media Centre interface does it ?

I think you're confusing it with Windows Media Connect?

Transcode was just a pain for me to use. Took up lots of processing power on my computer (even though it is a 3ghz/Pentium with 4gb) and wasn't very good at pausing, rewinding etc..

I still use my old X-Box and copy the DivX files to the hard drive via FTP.

Aha - quite possibly

Yes - Window Media connect lets you stream audio and pictures. WME gives you the whole kit and kaboodle. Apologies for the confusion.

Yeah, the rewinding is pretty jumpy and the fast forward non-existant, but my X2 4200+ & 2Gb of ram handles the transcoding perfectly, could burn a DVD a browse the net if I wanted. Its improved a lot recently and all movies play/pause perfectly. If I'm downstairs watching a movie I don't care whether my PC is sweating or not

The old skool Xbox and XMBC is still king, but I sold mine ages ago and love the Media Centre interface, especially the Vista one.

You can either download and install Windows Media Player 11 which has the connect software built into it, or goto microsoft.com and do a search for 'Windows Media Connect'.

Will this work with Vista Business? Work have given me a version to "beta test" for them - so I may as well use it!

Vista Business doesn't have Media Center, only Ultimate and Home Premium IIRC
