I have some fancy off site/web based back up but as i have a spare PC with a spare 2nd HD in it i want some simple software so i can back up selected folders to that HD at regular intervals (at least daily) and it overwrite any changes.....anything free out there?

Not free but cheap; on Vista I use Backup4all to do a file mirror backup to an external HDD.

Backup software Backup4all

I use Microsoft Synctoy to mirror my drives onto a server - it's a free download.

Another free option is Acronis TrueImage 7.

It's an older version which only backs up entire partitions IIRC, but it won't cost you anything!

I use Online Backup - Easy, Secure, Affordable - Data Deposit Box - install an agent and it sits watching your files. If anything is added or changed, it's uploaded whenever your machine is next idle. (Obviously all that can be configured). Also, keeps versions of your files, so if you want to get that expenses Excel sheet from a couple of weeks ago, no probs.

No problems with it and a couple of my friends and their families are using it.
