Networking bods: Redundant DHCP servers
Hi guys
Is there a way of having multiple DHCP servers in the same subnet? I'd imagine that each server would send out its configured 'priority' along with its DHCP response, and the client could then choose which response to choose. But that's just a guess - I don't know much about the protocol really.
BTW, one of the servers is a Windows 2003 PDC, the other is a Linux router.
Thanks

Split scopes as above is the only way you'll achieve that. Even with the same product, eg: W2K3, there is no way of implementing DHCP like that.
MS specifically recommend the split scope scenarios for redundancy.

The only other thing I have set up in the past, is to have the same scopes configured on another DHCP server, but leave it de-activated, if the main one goes down, activate the redundant one
Obviously it doesn't do it live, but it does work
