Once again, I would like to apologise for the speed and access issues we've been having over the last few days.

We've spent the last 3 days trying almost everything we can think of to resolve them but have decided to bite the bullet and move the server to a seperate data centre and connect it to a dedicated 100Mb connection (which is enough to run a small country!! LOL) and burstable to 1Gb.

If nothing else it's a way of ruling out bandwidth as the issue.

Either way, it will mean absolutely blistering performance once it's all sorted.

BUT...

It will mean an outage of part of Sunday while we move the server.

There will be a police escort and helicopter support as the scoobynet server is transported down the country to London..

I promise we'll have it back up as soon as humanly possible.

All the best, and thank you for your patience.

Best regards

Webbie

Excellent stuff ....I'll go out for a drive on sunday (avoiding London due to abnormal loads holding up traffic as advised above).

Here's hoping it cures the problem.

But wont it cost as much as a small country!!!???

Now what to do on Sunday? Oh...that could be Monday for me

Cheers SDB for putting in so much time on this.....I guess the change is a step in the right direction for Scoobynet anyway...especially with 6000 members and growing daily (a lot of them regulars/muppets).

Now hows about an Australian mirror....I'll admin it

Cool, thanks for that Simon

Why are you going to London village though? There's nothing there! I presume you're taking over the shed in the field next to the stream?

Question

If the server is moving, then I would expect the IP address to change.

Hence a DNS update will be required, which unless the TTL for the ScoobyNet record has been shortened, some people might be unable to see the server in the new place for 24 to 48 hours after the move.

Yes / No?

Chris.

Nice one Simon - good luck (done quite a few data centre moves in my time, so I know how they can be sometimes ).

Does your new data centre do chips for Scooby's? The performance is great, well done and thank-you.

In all honesty I'm not noticing much of a difference in the BBS's speed. It has always been pretty good for me though. At home i'm connected with a bog standard 56k modem and at work I imaginge its some gigantic network server but the comments apply to both. Connection it quick but not instant.
