Terminal Server anyone ?

Terminal Server anyone ?
Hi Everyone,
Basically, we have hit a problem with terminal services.
Scenario:
We have two servers.
Server1 is a test machine that ISNT part of a domain but has the licencing server installed. It was a test machine that evolved if you get my meaning.
Server2 is a new beefier (16 way ) machine that IS part of the domain.
We installed 30 TS CAL licences on server1
We can get onto server1 without a problem. However it isn't sharing the licences amongst them.
Do I need to make server1 part of the domain? I hope not! Is there a way around it ?

easiest was without faffing with the servers is ring M$ - they have a dedicated TS licensing department.
They can talk you through removing them from the test box & putting them on the other.

there is a registry key that you need to set on server 2, so that it looks at server 1 for the licensing server, as by default it will only look on the domain controllers for licensing servers,
looking for a web link with info......
from microsoft website
To select a specific license server
1.
On each terminal server, in the Run dialog box, type regedit, and then click OK.
2.
Locate the following path in the registry and select it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\TermService\Parameters
3.
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key to add a subkey named LicenseServers, if one does not already exist.
4.
Select the LicenseServers subkey, and on the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key and type in the NetBIOS name, fully qualified domain name, or IP address of the appropriate license server to add the new subkey under LicenseServers.
5.
Repeat step 4 for each license server you want the terminal server to discover.
it doesnt say but you also need to reboot the server for it to take effect. (if you deploy a new ts you need to repeat this on the new ts)

I thought there was a BIG caveat with adding registry keys to point to specific license servers
I may be wrong as its been a good year or two since I did TS Licencing

Hi All,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Its embarrasing :$ it really is. I didn't put a tick in the box that says "TS Application Server", so it was only running with the two administrative licences!
