Clearing up unwantted pc files ??

Clearing up unwantted pc files ??
Okay anyone advise me some off the basic steps to cleaning up some off the unwanted files etc on my windows xp run computer ??
would rather keep the cookies as there are a lot off sites that I visit on a daily basis including here and dont really want to have to log in each visit
Have burnt a few dvd discs lately by way off copying the original disc, have since learned that a lot off the files saved and burned to disc are actually stored on the pc even after burning to disc- anyone tell me how I get rid off these particular files also ???
