Question Demon broadband constantly disconnecting

Its usually fine then goes through spells of constantly dropping out (Like it has been for the past hour) I go to the router homepage and it will reconnect only to drop out again a few minutes later.

Does anyone else experience this with Demon?

Don't think that it will be a Demon thing, as it is usually BT that provide the actual broadband connection.

What stats does your router say for the connection (Connection Speed, Line Attenuation, Noise Margin etc.)??

It's your downstream noise margin.

For the typical 8Mbit/s ADSLmax service the router will typically try to hold at ~8dB. If it drops less than 6dB then you'll normally loose sync and the router will re-sync with a lower connection speed to compensate.

Changes in noise margin are normal due to time of day, the weather, quality of your home phone wiring, etc, etc.....

It's worth reading these links:

PS: Hi Boomer !! I still have your great video following me over the Mountain Road on the IOM !!!

It's a weird "science", this ADSL stuff

From an earlier post i downloaded "Routerstats", which graphically shows how your connection is doing. Around 21:30 tonight i was hovering over the 1-0db downstream noise margin at a speed of just under 7500Kbps (on an 8MB service). At about 22:15 it dropped the speed to 6600Kbps, and noise margin upped to 6, but then shortly dropped back to 1 or 2db. This seems to be caused by a loss of sync - so there must be all kinds of factors influencing things!

Thus, 16vmarc, download "routerstats" (link in the CR topic) and try to spot what affects your broadband connection.

Dark (gotta be a new username?) - yup, i often have a fond watch of that video (especially after the recently posted RS4 ones). Maybe it is time to upload it to You Tube
