PS3 Playing DVD's?? i'm confused

PS3 Playing DVD's?? i'm confused
Normally i play my dvd's in the dvd player... but just now i put it in the ps3 by mistake..
not to wory i thought, it plays dvds... ahhh well no it doesnt so it seems.
The PS3 is connected to the TV via a hdmi cable. When the dvd is inserted it reads it as a dvd then goes on its merry way to play it. The Tv pops up with a little box saying no signal being recieved.
Whats that all about then?

The tv i have is a 2k LG HD tv. I doubt very much the tv cant display whatever the PS3 is trying to do.
I'm assuming now that the PS3 wont upscale normal DVD's through an HDMI cable.

Does your TV support 1080p ? If not have you tried adjusting the DVD Upscaler settings under BD/DVD Settings. Assuming you have the 1.80 firmware update.

Tv supports 1080p as well.

hmm, dunno. You should have upscaling working, perhaps it's a fault :-(
All I can say is the PS3 definitely upscales DVDs from v1.80 onwards. It should work on both 780p and 1080i/p tvs.
Not sure what to suggest, other than if you know someone else with a PS3 you can try on the telly?
