Search is still there, albeit a Google Search option unless you have an upgraded user account.

I cant comment on the 27" specifically but I have the 20" 2001, 24" 2407, and 30" 2007 for my work PC. I think I'm right in saying the resolution is the same on the 24 and 27" at 1920x1200. The 24" is a dream to use, web browing is easy, excel is a joy to use and its a really great sized screen. I use the 24 as my main centre screen. the 30" really is huge, its great when you first fire it up but day to day its too big for me. I work with graphs all day so have 6 graphs side by side on it off to the side of my desk. I dont like it for web browsing as most of the time the screen is filled with white space and its hard to navigate. It also requires a dual link DVI card if you dont already have one.

The Dell LCD screens I have are all fantastic would thouroughly recommend them. If your willing to use ebay and buy from the states you can save a lot of money on them too, but beware of scammers with little/no feedback demanding western union payment.
