Good stuff guys

Can't wait to get back form work so I can finish the Career mode in Forza then get some proper racing in on live.

Add most of us on the Snet list will give you a level headed bunch to race/play. Americans can be a right pain in the @ss and very good at swearing

GRAW & Rainbow 6 make the broadband subscription worth it on their own IMHO...

Well, either you guys are cleverer than me or I'm just thick as **** lol. I tried to hook up to Xbox live/the internet with a multitude of cables via the PC and direct into the modem but couldn't get it to work at all. Used the ethernet cable which just seemed to activate a network connection to the PC but the IP test failed. Tried to manually install the settings from my ISP account with IP addresses, user names and passwords but it still wouldn't work. Am I doing something blindingly obviously wrong? any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sure people can help then.

If you havent got a router and are plugging directly in to the modem, then connect the xbox to the modem, power off/on the modem, then try to detect the xbox ip settings.

Its a cable modem connected to the pc via USB. My ISP is Datanet (Home 500) and the make of the modem is Binatone. The modem came with what I call a slitter box which allows internet use and the phone to use the single phone socket. The modem as two ports, one is ethernet which goes to the splitter box at the wall socket the other port is a square shape with the two top corners chamfered like this one https://eshop.t-online.de/WebRoot/St...pt2usb_max.jpg

Its not a cable modem if its using the phoneline, it will be an adsl modem.

It might be easier for you to buy a usb router.

Sorry, it is an ADSL Modem. If I get a USB router would this just plug into one of the PC's USB ports or would it plug into the modem? Sorry but i'm at my techie knowledge limit now! Never dealt with routers so I'm clueless.

An ADSL router would plug into the microfilter on the phone line. Your Pc and Xbox would then both plug into the router which would share the internet connection.

I just got online today.
Had an ADSL cable modem (Wanadoo) set up and while can connect XBox to this, means that kids cant use PC at same time.
Removed the modem, put in a router, connected the 2 home PC's to the router (easy) then connected the XBox to the router (Xbox off, connect it all up then fire up the XBox)
The XBox detected the network and all done, really quite simple.

My router is actually a wireless one too. My 2 home PC's are wireless but my Xbox is wired to the router, as the signal at home isn't great (OK for the PC's) but I didn't want the Xbox losing the signal mid way though an on-line game.

I probably have to play around with the channels on the router as I have wireless ccvt, wireless doorbells and next door has a wireless gate opener, so there is a lot of traffic on certain channels and I need to find a clear one.

If I find a good strong channel I will get the XBox wireless too (I bought one of those Xbox wireless receivers.

Tonight - Rainbow 6 Vegas !
