DVD plus or minus?

about to buy some blank DVDs. which one is best, plus or minus? using them for "backing up" DVDs and the odd data, etc.

A computers DVD writer will use both no bother. Its only if you have a home DVD recorder, that you need to specifically choose + or - for recording only. If you "backed up" a DVD onto it, it will still play in all recorders.
