someone dumped 100gb...
of data on our servers one night. Is there a way of telling what, when and where data has been dumped on servers so i can see what is the newest saved data?

My guess would be the inetpub server. If you know the date/time you should be able to look in the firewall logs, and get an external ip, then lookup the abuse email for the isp and report it.

itll be someone in the company i mean. Would be useful to know cos also theres numpties out there thatll do a complete laptop disk image and dump it on the server. I only know because of the backups and me keeping as close eye on the servers and removing anything that not necessary, whole laptop images is not necessary. Im sure there must be an easier one click way of seeing new big data.

Treesize Pro
Agree with ChrisB....Treesize pro is a Fantastic tool to analyse disk usage. Use it as one of my integral tools for disk usage especially on servers.

im trying that treesize prog again, didnt like it awhile ago for some reason, maybe cos its so slow (been running since 1pm)when you have vast amount of disk storage. It was dangerously low at 110gb now its less than 10gb. Will be increasing very soon to xx TB size so am going to need some decent disk management software

I put a good thing in place a couple of years ago....
Run treesize pro command line each night and do a scan xx levels deep with output in xml format.
Do a treesize compare of this file with the previous nights file and have the comparison output in html or csv (and /i mailed it to the team) and you have a daily log of where the space has gone as this only shows the delta values.
You can also do weekly/monthly or whatever you want.
Doesn't have to be scripted but works well.

Used to run Treesize Pro too, but no good for large volumes/partitions.
Now upgraded to SpaceObserver, handles the volumes far better (uses NTFS journalling after the initial scan).
Does have a few issues with a SQL DB backend though (with multiple volumes to the one DB).
