Default tomtom

hi guys,

thinking of getting satnav. done a search and found tomtom is popular choice. looking at tomtom one.

what i want to know is when you have asked it to navigate to a certain place, if you take a wrong turn etc does the tomtom recalculate the route or tell you how to get back on the route without you having to press anything on it? (never had satnav!!)

thanks

Certainly does!

Look at the garmin Nuvi 660, alot slimmer and better display than the tomtoms! (and i was a fan of the tomtom's of old!)

cheers. also if i come across a blocked motorway etc and turn off, will it try to get me back on the motorway? presume it will.

so if i wanted to go a different way id have to adjust it for the same route with no motorway or something?

I have got a TOM TOM ONE V2 and its great. I researched it before I brought it about 6 months ago. It seems that the europe version rather than GB only is the one to go for as it has different and better mapping, it costs about £30-40 more. It has blue tooth for your phone also. You can download speed camera locations for £3 a time from Pocket GPS World I think which is useful also. Have look on pistonheads.com on the forums, usually lots of info here!

ok so ive found out the tomtom regional (uk) has maps by teleatlas and the tomtom europe has maps by navteq. so im guessing this is the difference?

so if i bought the tomtom regional and then updated later on to get europe maps would they be by teleatlas or navtech? very confused now!!

The new desktop software for the Tom Tom is a bit good, I updated tonight and now have remote access. The bloody woman was telling me to turn around out of my PC speakers!!

Yep, apparently the mapping is completely different in UK and europe version. For the extra £30 or so def go for europe version, it has same mapping as the more expensive tom tom's.

Hypothetically speaking, could you buy the GB version, download the European maps from the Internet (newsgroups etc), and then upgrade the GB version to be a European version - or is there something else you get for the extra money with the European version?

i was wondering that. does anyone know if the full european maps that you can download are done by teleatlas or navtech? if they are by navtech then one could buy the UK version (teleatlas) then the euro maps(navtech if they are?) and compare the both and use the one that best suits/i like?

Your best place to go is Your Nav - it's an independent site that has a really good forum - there will be someone on there who can answer all your questions.

Incidentally the new TTOne XL has just come out with a much bigger screen and the new 520 and 720 models will come out later this year - they are tiny compared to the current units, just 24 mm thick.

If you are not too worried about having the absolute latest version (and to be honest, they all do the same thing), have a look at Total PDA - they do a lot of factory refurbs - which are essentially brand new devices with full 24 month factory warranties. I picked up my TT510 for just over £200 delivered.
