Why didnt u just buy a wireless PCMCIA card for the lappy from netgear?

Access point is for devices to connect to, acting as a bridge to your switch/router/lan etc, but your router is already wireless!

Ok, its not quite like I describe, but it seemed easier to explain that way ;-)

1) In one room is the wireless broadband router, working fine.

2) In another room is, is a non-wireless device, that needs to talk to the router. Its a 6ft long specialist printer with an ethernet port. No computer in this room.

3) Its inconvenient to cable between the router and the printer, so muggins thought he should get a wireless access point. I *thought* the wireless access point would talk to the broadband router, effectively acting as a repeater.

Its not mentioned in the netgear instructions explicity, but there IS a menu item to set the WAP as a repeater, but it doesn't appear to work - at least I can't get it working.

Has anyone done it ?

Router: 192.168.0 1
Printer: 192.168.0.2
WAP: 192.168.0.3
PC: 192.168.0.10
Subnet on all is 255.255.255.0

Are your APs in infrastructure mode rather than adhoc mode?

Unfortunately Access Point features such as PtP, Repeater etc normally only work with the same model access point i.e. WG602 to WG602.

IIRC the WG602 is not able to communicate with the WPN824.

I suggest using a wireless ethernet bridge (Buffalo High Power best) or 14Mbps Homeplug.

after much meswsing around I'd totally agree with this!!!

Ordered a pair of those plugs that plug into your electricity sockets. 85Mbps!
