Text blurry/fuzzy after switching from XP to Vista
...or is it surfing too much ****
Seriously though - its quite noticeable in IE, I've gone from XP x64 running IE6 to Vista running IE7 and its like my screen is out of focus.
I guess its some anti-aliasing feature somewhere thats overdoing things,
Gfx is a 7600GS, latest drivers and I've fiddled with the settings but to no avail.
Any help? its making my eyes hurt
(and yeah ok, might bump on firefox...I've only just installed Vista today, so give me a chance )

It's the 'Clear Type' thing which is supposed to make text look better on LCD monitors. To switch it off :
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, scroll to the Multimedia section, clear the Always use Clear Type for HTML check box, and then click OK.
The changes will take effect the next time you start Internet Explorer.

Hi guys, seems like this "clear type" thing might be to blame, is this somthing IE7 had over IE6 as that maybe the answer to the problem as it seems that mainly IE thats being the issue (difficult to say it if was just IE or not, as after a while my eyes stopped focusing on anything).
Will try it when I get back now I know where the option is.
Screen res is the native resolution, same as before, same refresh etc.
Did some other stuff last night like making the fonts bigger and it made it worse Messed with teh screen focus which improved a little (was at 60%, now on 100% - still fuzzy)
So fingers crossed this turning off the clear type will do the job....

I couldn't remember what not having "ClearType" font smoothing was like - so just turned it off to see what it looked like.... Jeez.... damn awful to say the least.
Turned it on again pretty damn sharpish.... and can't believe I ever used a GUI with such pixelated fonts.
I hope your issue isn't with ClearType as IMHO every font displayed looks 1,000,000 times better with it enabled than without it! Not blurred, just better...

Back home now, so I can try it...
Turns out Cleartype was turned off...Hmmmm
Turned it it on and can't say its done much differnce, although black text on a pure white background (like the advanced reply text box) is giving an interesting yellowish hue surrounding the text
Done some googling and it seems that I'm not the only one with the problem

After much playing around, I'm getting there, not entirely happy, but my eyes are tired so I'll have to give it arest.
But just for information so far I have it set like this (monitor is a Samsung syncmaster running on DVi...vga is the same)....
In IE cleartype = Off
In desktop settings (after I found the advanced effect option hiding away) = cleartype = off
In Nvidia control panel= image sharpening set at minimum
Then the monitor sharpness had to be reset back to 60 (as it was at 100, which now over-sharpening the picture). Contrast and brightness reset to suit.
So far its much better, still not happy though. Gfx driver appears to be a bit glitchy (even though its current) so that maybe playing a part.
And it looks like this version of Nvidia control panel has no wizrds to set up the colour correction correctly...doh!
I'll give it rest for now....
